Cannabinoids, the main class of compounds found in cannabis, drive the therapeutic experience. While THC and CBD are the major players, scientists have currently identified just over 100 cannabinoids in the cannabis matrix. We’re continuing to learn about the potential physiological properties of all cannabinoids as researchers believe that even minor cannabinoids may influence the experience.
If you’re looking to enhance your cannabis experience, and THC and CBD aren’t cutting it, try one of the following minor cannabinoids:
CBG: cannabigerol
CBG is the cannabinoid from which all over cannabinoids derive from. It is a non-psychotropic cannabinoid and it exhibits anti-proliferative and antibacterial activity. It also may have potential as anti-anxiety, antidepressant and therapeutic agent for inflammatory disease.
THCA: tetrahydrocannabinolic acid
The “raw” form of THC found in the cannabis plant. It can be consumed by drinking the juice of cannabis leaves. It may have potential as an anti-inflammatory, antispasmodic, and anti-proliferative agent. It is non-psychotropic.
CBDA: cannabidiolic acid
The “raw” form of CBD found in the cannabis plant. It is also non-psychotropic and has potential as an anti-inflammatory and anti-proliferative agent.
THCV: tetrahydrocannabivarin
Part of the THC family of compounds, THCV’s greatest therapeutic potential lies in its ability to reduce appetite and inflammation.
CBDV: cannabidivarin
Part of the CBD family of compounds, CBDV’s greatest therapeutic potential lies in its ability to reduce seizures and convulsions in patients with seizure disorders.
CBC: cannabichromene
CBC exhibits therapeutic potential as an anti-inflammatory, analgesic and anti-microbial agent. However, there are side effects to CBC as it may cause hypothermia and sedation in high doses. Typically, cannabis varieties do not express high concentrations of CBC.
CBN: cannabinol
The oxidative by-product of THC, CBN is made when delta-9 THC degrades with light and oxygen. CBN has potential in the therapeutic management of microbial infections and may exhibit sedative properties.
Delta-8 THC: delta-8 tetrahydrocannabinol
Part of the THC family of compounds, delta-8 THC is less psychotropic than the commonly consumed delta-9 THC. It has high therapeutic potential especially as an anti-nausea agent.
