The idea for THC2 was something Perry Jones, III, and Whitney Wehmeyer had been planning for two years before they met Dr. Jason Sims, D.O., who, unbeknownst to them, was planning for the same.

Wehmeyer made a post on Facebook seeking a doctor for her and Jones’ idea. Six weeks before the vote approved medical marijuana, the three first met at the Celebrity Club in Tulsa – famous for their fried chicken and, now, for the three of them, famous for being a great place to make a deal.

Over the next 45 days, the trio set into action. Hours after the measure passed in Oklahoma, their team was on-site at their first location letting the construction team inside.

The Higher Care Clinic (THC2) was the first full-service cannabis care clinic in Oklahoma, as well as the first to start seeing eligible patients in Oklahoma. THC2 decided to expand its practice into Missouri when they met with Ashley Markum from Ayden’s Alliance and heard of the price gouging that was happening.

THC2 strives to be a compassionate, patient-centered organization that provides comprehensive medical consultations and follow-ups for the use of medical cannabis – including pregnant patients and pediatric patients.

Dr. Sims was the first physician in Oklahoma to speak publicly in support of medical cannabis. Prior to opening THC2, he served as the Medical Director for Cleveland Hospital for ten years. There, he saw many patients experience relief “illegally” in the years prior. He was excited about the opportunity to help more patients.

Jones and Wehmeyer met 5 years ago and began the first of their now 7 companies, ranging from legal matchmaking to commercial real estate, credit repair, and now cannabis.

In 2017, they started doing pop-up “hemp tastings” and CBD shops all over Oklahoma. They traveled the nation attending hemp and cannabis expos to gain knowledge and connections to lead them to their ultimate dream of being cannabis business owners and helping patients improve their quality of life. Their patients include members of their own families.

Their goal is to help patients achieve their best lives with alternative medicine. The clinic sees patients who are fighting their own war on opiates, elderly patients who want to improve their quality of life, and beyond.

“Medical cannabis changes lives and being part of that change for a patient is the most rewarding experience one could ask for,” Wehmeyer told Greenway.

THC2 has 3 physical locations in Oklahoma and 1 in Missouri. Their Missouri location is at the Family Back & Neck Care Centre on the Medical Mile in Springfield (3100 South National Ave., Suite 100; Fridays 1:00 – 6:00 p.m. and Saturdays 12:00 – 4:20 p.m.). Telehealth (virtual) appointments are also offered statewide through their website 6 days a week at mopoptour.com or tulsahighercareclinic.com.

For appointments, patients must bring their identification, payment (both cash and card are accepted), and medical records, if available. If unavailable, the team will have patients sign a medical authorization form and do a full medical history with Dr. Sims.

Their pop-up clinics are not any different than their physical locations. They offer a simple process and a helping hand, including the state portal upload and application for cultivation to DHSS.

“Every single drive, every single location, every single rep they have in the field, handles our process exactly the same,” Wehmeyer said.

Their C.O.O., Jones, has intentionally made the process sleek and simple that training and education across the board is easy.

Most of the company’s pop-up clinics are set in rural communities, with people who have very little access to a cannabis-friendly physician or see clinics charging $200 or more for a visit.

The THC2 goal is for every single patient – whether virtual, in-person at their locations, or in-person at a pop-up – to have the most relaxed, educational, and fun experience they have ever had at a physician’s office, and ensuring patients leave knowing more than before. They seek to bring affordable options to all patients while upholding their own vision for setting the standard for clinics in the industry nationwide.

“This is what makes us different,” Wehmeyer said. “We’re not in it for a quick buck.”

THC2 is a full-service cannabis care clinic. Their Oklahoma locations offer healthcare memberships for $30 per month, allowing patients to have a primary care physician who is also canna friendly.

They also offer cannabis-friendly pain management services because many of their patients have had great success with using cannabis to wean off of opiates. Many of their patients had physicians who wouldn’t allow both medical cannabis and opiates for those working to eliminate their addiction to painkillers. The THC2 team hopes to bring this same service to Missouri patients in 2020.

They will also start selling THC2-brand CBD in March. Dr. Sims has been working with patient “research groups” to determine what products patients need and how they could bring them to patients at a discounted price after hearing concerns of products are too expensive and un-tested. THC2 is pumped to be able to offer a drop-ship service for patients can order straight from the website and have it sent directly to their chosen address.

What’s next for THC2?  “So much!” but they don’t like to “grow and tell.”  They are planning to open their next two physical locations, as well as ten satellite offices across Missouri.
