Dabbing cannabis, also known as “dabbing,” is a relatively new method of consuming cannabis extracts that has become wildly popular in recent years.

While the practice looks complex, it is essentially the same process as vaping.

Dabbing involves heating a small amount of highly concentrated cannabis oil, in any of it’s many forms from sugar to wax to badder or budder, on a hot surface and inhaling the vapor. This method of consumption has gained popularity in recent years due to its high potency and quick onset of effects.

The process of dabbing involves using a dab rig, often a complex glass piece reminiscent of a bong used for consuming cannabis concentrates rather than smoking flower.

The dab rig consists of a glass piece, a nail or banger made of quartz or titanium, a torch, and a dab tool. The nail or banger is heated with a torch until it reaches the desired temperature, then a small amount of dab is placed on the heated surface, and the vapor is inhaled through the mouth piece.

The main advantage of dabbing over traditional smoking is the high potency of the extracts used.

Cannabis concentrates often contain upwards of 80% THC, which is significantly higher than traditional cannabis flower, which typically contains between 10-30% THC. The higher potency provides a stronger and more immediate effect, making it a popular choice among more experienced cannabis users.

While vaping is similar, a large number of cannabis vapes are made from distillate – leaving out many of the terpenes gained while dabbing.

While a traditional setup is much less discreet than vaping, new dab pens and dispensers still allow for more discretion than a traditional joint, blunt, or pipe.

Another advantage of dabbing is the quick onset of effects. Because the vapor is inhaled directly into the lungs, the effects can be felt almost immediately. This is in contrast to traditional smoking methods, which sometimes take several minutes to take effect.

However, there are also some potential drawbacks to dabbing. One concern is that the high potency of the extracts used can lead to a higher risk of overconsumption and adverse effects, such as paranoia and anxiety. Additionally, the process of heating the nail or banger with a torch can be dangerous if not done properly, and can result in burns or other injuries.

For those new to cannabis, dabbing can be a bit much at times. but for experienced consumers with a higher THC threshold, dabbing allows for a more efficient and pleasurable session than smoking cannabis.

The near-immediate onset and the increased potency of cannabis concentrates make them some of the most popular products on dispensary shelves today.

While it can provide a stronger and more immediate effect than traditional methods, it is important to use caution and understand the potential risks associated with this method of consumption. As with any cannabis consumption method, it is always best to start with a low dose and slowly increase as needed to find the right balance for your individual needs.
